Most of us don’t struggle because we don’t know what we want. We struggle because we’re afraid to say what we actually want. We are afraid of failing, of looking silly, or of being disappointed. We like to tell ourselves we’re “unclear.” But the real block is fear. Fear quietly controls our decisions, so we settle for safety or do nothing at all.
However, if you don’t set a (career) goal because of that fear, you’re already creating the disappointment you were trying so hard to avoid.
Avoiding failure doesn’t protect you. It only guarantees disappointment. By not committing to your goals, you’re already letting the worst-case scenario happen.
Why Saying It Matters
Sometimes we can’t even say out loud what we truly want. How can we expect it to happen then?
When you finally say out loud what you want—even just to yourself—you take the first step to making it real. It shows that your goals matter and that you are worth them, even if it’s risky.
