The Most Important “Yes” Is the One You Give Yourself

Many chances are missed long before anyone else says “no.” When you don’t apply for jobs that excite you, or when self-doubt takes over, your mind becomes the first barrier. It quietly tells you certain possibilities are off-limits, even before a hiring manager sees your application.

Every hesitation, every “maybe I’m not good enough,” acts like an internal roadblock.

This is self-sabotage: your mind stops you from acting out of fear, not reality. Often, the biggest obstacle isn’t outside. It’s the story your mind tells about what’s safe or possible.

The power of an inner “Yes”

One question can change everything: What would I choose if the answer were always yes? Imagining a world where “yes” is automatic helps your fear and self-doubt fade away.

Research shows that mindset shapes how we see things. Facing tasks with curiosity and confidence activates problem-solving in the brain, while anxiety triggers stress.

Practicing the inner “Yes”

Try the “Three Yeses” exercise: every day, find three moments where you feel unsure and say “yes” anyway. It could be making a phone call or sending an application.

This works in three steps: the first “yes” is in your mind, the second is action, and the third builds momentum.

Afterward, think about what happened. What did you learn? What small wins did you notice?
